Hyundai Kona Facelift 2021 | Compact B-Segment SUV
The 2021 Hyundai Kona facelift is a B-Segment compact SUV that launched in 2021. The all-new Kona comes in a funky and lifestyle-oriented exterior design that is way more modern and attractive compared to the previous version. All-new Kona comes in 4 different variants which are the Standard 2.0, 2.0 Active, 1.6 Turbo and the sporty 1.6 N Line. The Standard 2.0 priced at RM119,888 and 2.0 Active variant priced at RM136,888. Meanwhile the 1.6 Turbo and 1.6 N Line variants priced at RM146,888 and RM156,888 respectively, on-the-road, without insurance.
As per their name, the Standard 2.0 and 2.0 Active variants are powered by the Smartstream G2.0 Atkinson engine while the 1.6 Turbo and 1.6N Line are powered by the Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi engine. The outputs of the 2.0 variants remain unchanged at 149 PS at 6,200rpm and 180 Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. Whereas, the Hyundai’s Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi turbocharged engine comes with 198 PS and 265 Nm of torque at 1,600 to 4,500 rpm. Power goes to the front wheels via a Smartsteam 7DCT seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
At the front, the new Kona has been redesigned whereby it appears to have a slimmer and wider cascading grille which takes the central-stage, and the Hyundai logo is now moved from the grille to the bodywork above the grille. The SUV-style black plastic body cladding is connected from the bumpers to the wheel arches, together with a U-shaped silver skid plate surrounding the center air intake. Not to forget the projection headlamps and the triple reflector lens. The alloy wheel has been updated as well, with the 2.0 getting 17-inch turbine-style rollers, while the Active and 1.6 Turbo ride on 18-inch two-tones with a criss-cross design. With enhanced cladding and a huge skid plate, the rear bumper follows the design trend established by the front end.
Inside the new Kona, there’s a few key updates available which are the restyled central console with a taller transmission tunnel and a new electronic parking brake that replaces the previous handbrake. Another new updated feature is the 10.25’’ LCD cluster with multiple themes to choose from following the driver’s preference. At the central, there is a 8’’ touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Speaking of the drive modes, it’s updated from the previous push button to a new rotary selector with the usual Eco, Normal and Sport modes. The aircon vents feature new aluminum-effect surrounds, redesigned slats and a twist-to-close airflow control knob on the corner outlets. The Active and 1.6 Turbo are now with two color options which are the full black leather upholstery and the light beige leather with dark red piping. Here comes the boot, the boot space of the new Kona has a total of 361 liters which is way more spacious compared to its competitors.
In terms of safety and security, all models of the new Kona come with 6 SRS airbags including driver, front passenger and side, ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability control, hill start assist, hill descent control and rear ISOFIX child seat anchors. Whereas the 2.0 Active and 1.6 Turbo variants are now equipped with the Hyundai SmartSense driver assistance system which include the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance (RCCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), High Beam Assist (HBA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Rear Occupants Alert (ROA) and Safe Exit Warning (SEA).

Under the hood, the Kona has claimed to offer a smoother ride while yet retaining its sporty personality.
